Mahadevappa Rampure (MR) Medical College – Gulbarga

Instead of Gulbarga, the Karnataka government chose to build a medical college at Bellary. In 1963, the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society, led by Sri Mahadevappa Rampure, established a medical college in the private sector. The Medical College was founded with assistance from Dr. D. C. Pavate, Sri. Veerendra Patil, and Sri. S. Nijalingappa, the then-Chief Minister of the Government of Karnataka.

The Medical College was founded in 1963 with the goal of producing quality doctors who would meet the needs of the community and the changing expectations of the public. It also aimed to improve the health of the local population by providing health care and the best training opportunities for medical students.
