Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) - Bangalore
The Vokkaligara Sangha founded the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in 1980. It is a part of Bangalore, Karnataka's Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
On September 2, 1979, the Vokkaligara Sangha formally decided to establish a medical college beginning in 1980–1981 and requested permission from the Registrar of Bangalore University. The Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital's foundation stone was laid on 30 November 1980, by Shri R Gundu Rao, the Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka, who also announced the grant of vacant land in Banashankari for the construction of a college building and dormitories. On January 1st of the following year, the Sangha chose Dr. M. Basavaraju, Professor of Physiology, as the Principal.
